Nesbit Systems has extended the integration capabilities of the industry standard Media Library System (MLS) with “The Listener”. This is an API that provides an automated data export of MLS files to third party software applications. The format of the exported file of MLS metadata is XML. Metadata from MLS is exported to a network storage device and/or FTP site, ready to be captured by other broadcast systems, such as Avid, Apple edit systems, traffic and DAM systems. The metadata and the logic for exporting are defined by the user. The user can control the transaction logic that determine when records are to be exported. For example, every time the location information changes for a record that change (and perhaps other data) will be exported. In addition the data fields selected for export are also user controlled. The export is automatic but timing intervals are controlled by the user through the Listener settings interface. The Listener also supports importing of data into MLS from third party systems such as Grass Valley, with the same logic control and features as the export. Features and implementation will vary depending on the export capabilities of the other system. The Nesbit Media Library Systems stores a rich trove of data. The importance of meta data is well established for managing video assets in a broadcast and production environment. The ability to share this data with other systems in the organization is a key component of an integrated enterprise. The Media Library System is a key repository of media asset metadata, and often the primary source of metadata in the organization. As such it is of significant benefit to be able distribute this information to other systems. Recognizing this, Nesbit Systems has developed “The Listener” to establish a standard for metadata distribution using MLS. The Listener has full audit report capability, roll back and audit components, and security features. Nesbit currently offers data exchange API's for Grass Valley's Mediaframe and Gabriel traffic systems, and is working on API's for EVS and for Avid. In this era it is important that "no system should stand alone." Now, with The Listener we can make that happen for you.
