As part of our Media Library Installation this large cable company needed to integrate
the Traffic System and other broadcast systems, using our Media Library
System as a hub.
The Media Library System for this client provided the key solution to manage all
library operations and asset tracking workflow. As in all of Nesbit's installations it
provided the following:
1. Eliminates unnecessary production shoots by knowing what material currently
exits in the library, down to the individual shot and timecode level.
2. Reduces the amount of time spent looking for footage that exists but can't be
located. MLS saves countless hours of unproductive effort in tracking down assets
in an organization by knowing where the asset is at any moment.
3. MLS allows the client to effectively repurpose assets. By knowing what is in an
archive you can more efficiently edit, package and distribute sources of material.
4. Saves time compiling pull lists by using the sophisticated query capability of MLS
to automatically generate pull lists that meet exact specifications. MLS will not only
give the pull lists needed but will also allow you to distribute them via email to your
designated distribution list.
5. Know what material you own the rights to and track detailed rights management
information for all of your assets.
6. Assist in digital ingestion projects. MLS will not only allow you to identify what
footage you want to digitize but will also track it through the conversion process
and will track the material in its final digital form. You will be able then to manage
and track your digital and analog assets with one system.
7. WebMLS allows secure access to your video library to authorized users around
the world. Save staff time by having end users query the system and perform the
legwork in finding footage.
8. The Media Library System is customized to meet the unique requirements of an
organization. Rely on Nesbit's experience to ensure that you have the most capable
asset management software available.
As a key component of the networks broadcast operation MLS was designed to
track critical data that was used throughout the company. The client decided to
leverage the existing ROI in MLS and expand the use of this data in the company by
integrating critical systems with MLS to access this information seamlessly and to
capture this data at the source if it existed in another system.
We analyzed the Traffic System for information that was relevant to MLS operations
and wrote an interface to import relevant records directly into the Media
Library system. The interface runs each night to import that days data and captures
errors and reports on duplicates and other issues related to quality assurance.
To link to broadcast systems we installed our “Listener.” Within the MLS application
fields may flagged by the system administrator for export to external systems. If
one of these fields is updated or changed, a record is written (fields within the
record were pre-defined by the customer) to a file. The “Listener” polls this file
every n seconds (time is configurable by the administrator); eliminates duplicate
changes and sends the most recent records to a broadcast application, writing
them out in XML format.
The integration eliminated dual data entry processes and decreased errors in entry
by having a single source of input. It also allowed the important data to be where it
needs to be, accessible by the user for their business requirements in various systems
in the network.
